Workers & Management
The vast majority of the time you spend in Kingsmarch will be spent managing your Settlement and your Workers. This is the core of the league mechanic - and if your Settlement isn’t well-managed, your profits will suffer!
Workers
Workers are hired NPCs that you assign to various tasks within Kingsmarch. Workers assigned to Buildings reduce the amount of time for that Building to complete tasks, and/or reduce the risk of a catastrophic failure occurring.
…But they can also die, and cost gold to hire and put to work. Making sure you have a capable roster of workers is key to keeping Kingsmarch humming along!
There is a maximum capacity of Workers you can have hired at once - initially 10, increasing to 90 with maximum rank Recruitment.
Specialties
Workers have specialties denoting what tasks they’re good at. These specialties are each associated with a specific building that Workers can be assigned to, and come in Ranks 1-10. Workers with higher rank specialties tend to have larger hiring fees and wage costs… but will perform significantly better!
Workers can have multiple specialties. Since Workers can only be assigned to one task at a time, this doesn’t have any direct benefit, and Workers with multiple specialties will often cost more Gold.
Hiring Workers
Workers can be hired via Recruitment at the tavern, from an available selection. This selection can be rerolled by spending Gold, to get a new list of recruits.
The cost of rerolling the hiring list rises as you increase your Recruitment Rank - up until the maximum rank, which grants a discount. Each Rank also increases the maximum Rank of Specialties on available Workers.
At maximum Rank recruitment, Rerolling Recruits costs 1,875 Gold. However, you also unlock the option to “Reroll with High Quality Recruits” at the cost of 22,500 Gold.
Workers of specialty rank 7 and higher are exceptionally rare with the standard reroll, and Rank 10 workers are rare even WITH the enhanced reroll. Getting a full team of Rank 10 Workers will be a league-long goal, and probably require spending millions of gold rerolling and hiring Workers.
Paying Wages
Workers require ongoing wages in order to continue working. These wages will be continuously drained from the Kingsmarch Treasury.
If the treasury ever runs out of gold, progress by all Workers immediately stops, until you deposit more Gold.
In this way, Gold serves as a sort of “fuel” for the league mechanic. Make sure you’re able to generate enough Gold by playing PoE to keep your settlement generating profit for you!
Death and Loss
Workers can die - permanently, leaving you out all the Gold you spent to hire them.
The two ways that you can lose Workers are at the Map Device, and from a random event while Shipping.
The Kalguuran Map Device is by far the deadliest - every map will list a percentage chance that a Worker permanently dies running that map, based on the number of Workers assigned, their specialty rank, and the map’s difficulty.
In addition, Workers assigned to Shipping and Atlas Devices can be kidnapped by bandits. If you fail to either pay the ransom or kill the bandit boss, all of your kidnapped Workers will be executed.
Management
You’ll be checking in with Kingsmarch as often as you can stand, to keep your Workers working, your atlas devices stocked, and to cash out your rewards!
Town Map
The Town Map can be accessed just outside the Tavern, by hitting the league hotkey (default “V”), or by talking to Johan in your hideouit.
The Town Map allows you to manage your entire Settlement from a single screen. It shows an overview of all of your Resources, allows you to view the status of each building, assign workers to buildings, deposit and remove Gold from your Treasury, and tells you how long your current Gold will last before you run out.
Treasury
The Treasury is a pool of Gold where your Worker’s wages are drawn from. You need to be sure to deposit gold from your inventory here before you run out, if you want to keep your workers working!
Collecting Rewards
When you collect rewards from various buildings, you will be presented with a window full of loot. This window can have multiple tabs, and has a “Take All” and “Discard All” button.
You can also check a box to apply loot filters to reward screens - though this does mean you’ll have take the rewards you want manually.
