Beginner's questions about PoE Currency

Hi, I started my adventure with the Path of Exile with the beginning of the Synthesis League. Earlier I played in D3, but also other older MMOs.
I understand already which orbs that have properties, I know not to use currency at the very beginning of the game (because orbs will be useful later, when I get really good items).
I have already created 3 characters
85 LVL
43 lvl
and 23lvl

However, I am concerned about one thing and hence my question, it is possible that I am doing something differently than I should. So far, I’ve found only 1 exalted orb. A dozen or so Chaos orbs and other cheaper orbs, but it is Exalted orb that is supposed to be the most reliable currency. What can I do to drop more and more valuable orbs?

Is it good idea to buy some currency for new league with some RMT store? Which poe shop can you recommend?

Exalted Orbs and Chaos Orbs are one of the most reliable currencies you can trade with in Path of Exile. When it comes to acquiring large amounts of currency, you should not only pay attention to these drops though. While mapping, you will mainly make your money from 6-socket items, which sells for 7 Jeweller's Orbs at the vendor, Chromatic Orbs are also good source of currency if you are struggling early on. Converting your lesser currency into Exalted Orbs and Chaos Orbs is what you should be doing when you need to make big purchases.

When it comes to dropping more currency in general, a popular method is simply playing a Magic Find character that excels at running content fast with large amount of % increased Item Quantity and Rarity. Look at drops in Path of Exile as a big roulette, which spins every time you kill a monster, the more efficiently you clear content, the bigger chance you have to get lucky.

Just to add upon Vvckd’s fine answer above, the simple answer is that you shouldn’t be looking at how many Exalted Orbs (or Chaos Orbs even) you actually get as drops – that’s quite rare, and certainly for Exalted Orbs you could go a whole league without finding one (though you may count yourself a bit unlucky) – finding multiple would be even less likely.

Farming rate and such is usually measured in Chaos per hour or such, but that really just means how much all the stuff you’re getting is worth when converted to Chaos (or to Exalted Orbs). There’s a good chance you’ve got things in your stash already that you could resell for some more currency (and, if you’re newish at the game, you arguably should) – things like Essences (keep in mind you can upgrade these by selling 3 of the same kind to a vendor) or Breachstone splinters.

Bottom line is that you aren’t doing anything wrong if you aren’t getting many/any Exalted Orbs as actual drops.

In addition to what Vvckd said, the Exalted Orb is a relatively rare currency on its own (e.g. as an actual drop) — even if you’re playing quite a lot you might only find a handful of them every league.

There are no real tricks except getting lucky, putting in long hours, and [as Vvckd mentioned] playing a Magic Find build. Most of the currency you acquire will come from converting other items in material wealth, such as Divination Cards, Jewellry and other nice Gear you might find, and so forth.
